If you’ve been trying to figure out how to change the Honda key fob battery, then you came to the right place. This step-by-step guide on Honda key fob battery replacement from the parts team at Honda of Aventura will show Hollywood-area drivers just how easy it is. Of course, if you run into any problems, feel free to contact our Parts Center for assistance.

Choosing the Right Honda Key Fob Battery

Most vehicles in the new Honda lineup come with key fobs that require a flat, circular, 3-volt battery, which can be found at any hardware store in the Miami area. You can also stop by the Honda of Aventura Parts Center, where we always keep Honda key fob batteries in stock.

Honda Key Battery Replacement

The following steps demonstrate how to open a Honda key fob, how to remove/replace the battery, and finally, how to put the key fob back together.

  1. Press and slide the button that releases the metal key, and then slide the key out.
  2. Use the key or a small flathead screwdriver to pry the key fob open.
  3. Press your thumb down right above the battery to hold the fob together so the contents and external buttons don’t fall out.
  4. Remove the dead battery, taking note of the positive and negative sides, in order to install the new battery correctly. Don’t touch the terminals on the new battery, as the oils on your skin can cause corrosion, which will shorten the battery life.
  5. Insert the new battery in the same position as the old one. Use the positive (+) and negative (-) marks inside the key fob as a guide.
  6. Align the two halves of the key fob and gently apply pressure until they snap back together.

Note: Some key fobs have a screw that holds the two halves together instead of a button. In this case, use a small flathead screwdriver to remove the screw, and then follow the steps above to change the battery in your Honda key fob. Not sure how to open the Honda key fob? What Should I Do If my Honda Key Fob Falls Apart?

If the internal pieces of your key fob fall out, don’t panic. You can use your spare key as a guide on how to reassemble it, and follow these steps:

  1. Place the buttons into the correct slots.
  2. Insert the crossbar between the empty spaces of the top two buttons, with the crossbar’s curvature facing outwards.
  3. Insert the battery back into the motherboard with the positive sign facing out.
  4. Put the motherboard back into the key fob with the rubber film up against the buttons.
  5. Line up the back of the key fob with the front, and press them together until you hear them snap into place.
  6. Stand next to your vehicle and press all the buttons to make sure that they are working properly.

Again, if you run into any issues with putting your Honda key fob back together, pay a visit to our dealership in North Miami Beach, and our parts professionals will assist you.
