What Is Lane Departure Warning?

An innovative Honda safety feature, Lane Departure Warning is designed to help drivers avoid possible collisions caused by drifting out of their lane. Lane Departure Warning, or LDW, is a part of the Honda Sensing™ safety suite, which is standard in most new Honda models and available in others. Find out what this feature can do to make your Miami Lakes-area commute safer in this guide from Honda of Aventura.

How Does LDW Work?

Employing cameras located near the rearview mirror, LDW detects lane markings. When your vehicle’s wheels move out of the lane, a flashing indicator and beeping alert will warn you to move back into your lane. In some cases, the steering wheel and even the seat will vibrate to notify you that the vehicle is drifting out of its lane. The LDW system can help you to avoid crashes from:

  • A vehicle moving outside an adjoining lane
  • Sideswiping
  • A rollover
  • And more

In most Honda models, the LDW system is automatically activated when you start your car. In other models, it may need to be activated by pushing a button. Also, it is important to note that this system will not activate if you use your turn signal.

Lane Departure Warning Options

There are a few different LDW warning options. Having the ability to customize the system alert to your preference helps to keep you safe on Hollywood streets, as well as out on I-95. The alert options include customized feedback, warning types, and more:

  • Adjustable audible warning levels
  • Haptic feedback warnings like seat and wheel vibrations
  • Visual alerts with a flashing lane marking symbol
  • Highway’s edge recognition

You also have the ability to disable the system if you prefer.
